Leo Bonatini failed to score in his last 43 games before leaving Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers for a loan spell in Portugal.
This is not a drill Wolverhampton Wanderers fans: Leo Bonatini really has scored in successive games.
A striker who had found the net in just one of his last 43 matches in all competitions, a run going back all the way to a 1-0 win away at Birmingham City in December 2017 when Wolves were still a Championship team, is showing some semblance of form at long, long last since joining Vitoria Guimaraes on loan over the summer.
After netting a consolation during Vitoria’s 3-1 defeat at Sporting Lisbon on Saturday, he was the inspiration behind Wednesday’s 5-0 thrashing of Belenenses.
He couldn’t really miss of course, tapping into an open goal after some excellent set-up play, but with an assist to his name too, Bonatini has now contributed directly to three goals in the last four days.
It is far too early to say that the Brazilian is back to his best but the 25-year-old is finally showing the sort of form that once made him Nuno Espirito Santo’s number one striker at Molineux, long before Raul Jimenez arrived to take Wolves to the next level.
Speaking to Noticias ao Minuto, Vitoria president Miguel Pinto Lisboa confirmed that there is an option-to-buy clause in Bonatini’s contract. If he continues like this, Wolves might be in line for a welcome cash windfall.
