Game Not Launching/Stuck on Splash Fix

If anyone has the issue like I experienced where the game wouldn’t launch past the opening splash screen, you can perform one of the two options.

Option #1 – Remove/Rename openxr_loader.dll

For whatever reason, the VR related binary used in the Unreal Engine causes issues for me. Because this game doesn’t use VR, if you are having the same issue, you can remove/rename this dll

  • Right click on Bolt Gun in Steam
  • Select properties and click local files on the left
  • Click Browse… to view the install folder
  • Navigate to Engine -> Binaries -> ThirdParty -> OpenXR -> win64
  • Inside this folder should be openxr_loader.dll which you can delete or rename

    • Option #2 – Run Game in Windows 7 Compatibility

  • Right click on Bolt Gun in Steam
  • Select properties and click local files on the left
  • Click Browse… to view the install folder
  • Right click on Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun.exe and select properties
  • Click the Compatibility tab, and check, “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
  • Select Windows 7
