The 40-Year-Old Virgin vs. Wedding Crashers

Rank This Matchup on 8/29/2009 Two top comedies duking it out....and I have to say that I laughed harder during WEDDING CRASHERS. on 9/1/2009 I'd have to disagree on 10/23/2009 Both very funny movies but The 40-Year-Old Virgin just kills me.

I'd have to disagree

Both very funny movies but The 40-Year-Old Virgin just kills me.

Totally disagree, I loved the first 20 minutes of Wedding Crashers but when they got to the island it just bored me. 40-Year-Old version all the way for me

It's a shame that Vince Vaughn was not nominated for a Best Actor Oscar... this is one of the best comedic performances of all time. That said, The 40 Year Old Virgin is a better all around movie.

I think I laughed harder at "Wedding Crashers," but "Virgin" has held up better in repeat viewings for me. Just why this is, I can't say, but it seems to be true.

I've only seen them both once, but I found Crashers funnier overall. Only liked about half of Virgin.

I have an ambivalent relationship with movie comedies, though. I find very few comedies to be consistently funny enough for me to really like them.

Never really laughed hard during wedding crashers. so... that one undoubtedly doesn't win.

The 40 year old Virgin kept the laughs coming till the end and The Wedding Crashers crashed after 2/3 in.

I don't think either ran out of steam and they have both held up on repeated viewings but virgin has better charachters and a more rounded story

Would I rather bone Elizabeth Banks or Rachel McAdams? My penis can't decide.

Ooh...I hear you on that one...

I remember when these films came out...Wilson and Vaughn were the established stars, in the movie with a major promotional campaign, and Steve Carell was "that guy from the Daily Show, right?" (The Office was still pretty new). And 40-Year-Old Virgin just killed it; way funnier, with vastly superior acting talent, actually had a character you cared about, and a solid supporting cast (that at that time, was also pretty much unknown). Now we have a ton of Apatow-inspired spin-offs and co-stars in many funny films (Superbad, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Role Models) while Vaughn and Wilson have gone on to do, what exactly? Oh yeah...Fred Claus and You Me and Dupree.

I never understood what was enjoyable about The 40 Year-Old Virgin. I mightve chuckled a couple times during the entire movie. I disagree that The 40 Year-old Virgin had more acting talent.. but in my opinion steve carell is one of the worst actors i've seen (along with will ferrell.. maybe it's just not my kind of comedy.. but i liked Superbad)..or at least takes the worst roles. Vaughn, McAdams and even Walken are very good actors. I actually could not stop laughing during Wedding Crashers.. I've watched it 3 or 4 times to the 1 and a half times i've watch The virgin.

Having just seen Wedding Crashers for the first time, I can't deny that it was hilarious. But the difference is that The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a much funnier comedy that manages to never stop being funny for two hours (Wedding Crashers has a few rough patches in its runtime where it loses steam). The acting in both films is stellar, but The 40-Year-Old Virgin has a much stronger supporting cast. Still, it's all about a preference, and everyone will take a different side. For me, The 40-Year-Old Virgin will take this one in a walk!

Quite frankly...I don't think this one is that close. Virgin....no question...

Virgin.....

Wedding Crashers is the better and funnier film. Though, neither are the God-tier comedies they're made out to be.

When I think about 40 Year Old Virgin vs Wedding Crashers it reminds me of Pixar vs DreamWorks. Wedding Crashers has better characters and might even be funnier, yet Virgin is the better movie and has an unexpected sweet message.

These movies are both ok. Nothing ground breaker or life changing here but are good pop corn flicks. That being said, I enjoy 40 year old vigil ever so slightly more.

Virgin

Wedding Crashers has a good opening act but drags for the rest of the movie. 40 YOV is solid throughout.

Both are top 3 comedies of all time for me. Virgin is my favourite.
