MIDVALE — A Midvale woman is sharing disturbing videos of what she says is her neighbor yelling racist profanities at her and her family.
The victim’s lawyer, Tyler Ayers, says these acts have been happening since May.
“We have been dealing with a very vulgar and harassing neighbor since May. She walks by our home daily and screams racial profanities at our home, calling our 9-year-old son (an expletive) child or yelling we are disgusting (expletive) or (expletive) aren’t allowed on her street,” the woman wrote on social media.
The woman alleges in the post that her neighbor has also spit on their cars, camped out in front of their house in the middle of the night, and chased their son around the neighborhood with sticks and leafblowers.
According to court documents, at least one confrontation has resulted in assault charges against the woman. Ayers says the FBI is now investigating the neighbor’s behavior.
“She’s willing to say vile, horrible things on camera because she thinks it doesn’t matter here because for a long time it hasn’t. And that’s the sad reality of it,” Ayers said.
Ayers says he is pursuing a civil lawsuit against the suspect on behalf of the victim.
The Unified Police Department told KSL TV that other people in the neighborhood have also reported issues with the woman to police and the HOA.
Police say this is being looked into as a mental health case.
Murray and Utah officials have commented on the social media video condemning the actions seen in the video.
“It’s hard to describe how disgusted I feel learning that one of our Midvale families is living in a situation where they are dealing with regular racist tirades and feeling their safety is at risk,” said Midvale Mayor Marcus Stevenson in an X, formerly known a Twitter, post.
Stevenson says he is in contact with city management and police about this incident and is working to speak to the police about this issue.
“Lastly, the perpetrator in this video is not an employee of Midvale City and has never worked for Midvale City,” the post states.
The Unified Police Department says that the suspect was never a practicing attorney in Utah.
