Lisa Stansfield was born on 11 April 1966 in Manchester, England. She lived with her parents Marion Stansfield and Keith Stansfield along with her two sisters Karen and Suzanne. Her family moved to Heywood and Rochdale in the years 1976 and 1977 respectively. She did her studies at Siddal Moor School. She won the Search of a Star competition in 1980. In 1981, her first single “Your Alibis” was released by Devil Records. Lisa signed a recording contract with Polydor Records, at the time when she was appearing in the television show Bring Me the Head of Light Entertainment. She also co-hosted Razzamatazz, the children’s television music program in1983.

After working together on a school musical production, Stansfield and former schoolmates Ian Devaney and Andy Morris collaborated musically and formed the band Blue Zone in the year 1986. In January 1988, the band’s single Thinking About His Baby reached number seventy-nine in the UK. In the same year, their single Jackie which was issued outside the UK reached number 37 on the Hot Dance Club Songs. On 20 November 1989, her debut album Affection was released. The album was sold over five million copies worldwide and reached the top ten on charts around the world.

Lisa received many awards including Brit Award, the Billboard Music Award, the World Music Award, the ASCAP Award, Ivor Novello Awards, Silver Clef Awards, and DMC Awards for Affection and its signature song All Around the World. In the year 1991, her second studio album Real Love was released. Stanfield’s third studio album So Natural was released in the year 1993, which included her co-written and recorded In All the Right Places, the theme song from the film Indecent Proposal. In the year 2003 Lisa’s first greatest-hits album, Biography: The Greatest Hits was released.
